Autumn Festivals in the Palatinate

Autumn festivals have their own tradition in the Palatinate. After the grape harvest, at the transition between summer and the cooler season, festivals are held in many Palatinate towns to celebrate autumn – with Federweißer (young wine), Zwiebelkuchen (onion tart), wine, catering, and music. In Flomersheim, this format is designed as a neighborhood festival that brings together residents and guests from the Frankenthal urban area.

One-Day Format

Unlike the Kerwe, which lasts four days, the Herbstfest is a one-day event. This more compact format allows for an intense festival atmosphere concentrated into a few hours, making it feel particularly vibrant. From late morning until evening, the town center fills with festival-goers.

Catering with Autumn Specialties

The catering features seasonal Palatinate specialties: Federweißer and Zwiebelkuchen – the classic autumn combination – along with Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (grilled sausage), steaks, and Palatinate wine. Complemented by coffee and cake in the afternoon, the festival tent offers culinary diversity.

Market Activity

Alongside the festival tent, there are often stalls with handicrafts, autumn decorations, plants, and regional products. Direct marketers from the Vorderpfalz region offer seasonal fruits and vegetables, honey, jams, and other specialties.

Live Music and Program

A local brass band, a marching band, or a band provides the musical accompaniment. Usually acoustic sets during the day, and in the evening often a festive style that invites dancing. Play areas and small animation stations are set up for children.

The Herbstfest is an occasion where the Flomersheim community associations become visible: the sports club, music association, parish community, men's and women's groups – all contribute with catering, setup and dismantling, or program activities.
