Traffic-free experience mile with crafts, live music, and classic car exhibition
Emlichheim is located in the western part of the Grafschaft Bentheim, right on the Dutch border. With about 7,000 inhabitants, the municipality is one of the largest centers in the Niedergrafschaft and boasts a vibrant town festival tradition. The Herbstfest is one of the most important town festivals in the annual calendar, bundling the energy of local clubs, businesses, and initiatives into a two-day program.
Hauptstraße, Wilsumer Straße, and Ringer Straße will be closed to traffic for the festival. This creates a continuous experience mile where families can safely stroll between the stalls. Traffic will be rerouted, and the town center will become a pedestrian zone.
The range of crafts is consistently themed. Artisans present works made of wood, stone, metal, and textiles. Woodturning, blacksmithing, carving, and weaving are sometimes demonstrated live, allowing visitors to experience the manufacturing processes firsthand.
Acts on stage include the Dutch-Lower Saxon street dance group Öllibloazers, who captivate the audience with their mix of folklore and modern choreography. Oliver Roth brings one of Germany's most famous rock classics to the stage with his Peter Maffay tribute. Other local and regional acts complete the program.
The Emlichheim Classics classic car exhibition is one of the weekend's highlights. Classic cars, motorcycles, tractors, and commercial vehicles are displayed in a dedicated area, attracting enthusiasts from across the region.
For families, there's a children's flea market, carousel, bouncy castles, climbing wall, and bungee trampolines. The family offerings are extensive and cater to children of various age groups—from preschool to sporty teenagers.
The two-day format has proven successful for years. Both days start in the afternoon and run until early evening, making the festival easily accessible for both families and older visitors.
The festival emphasizes a broad program mix with clear focus areas: crafts, music, classic cars, and family activities. This approach attracts a diverse audience and caters equally to different generations.
