Autumn fair with Schnibbeltag and closing fireworks at Ritzebütteler Marktplatz — October 1st to 5th, 2026
The Fleckenmarkt Cuxhaven is one of the oldest folk festival traditions on the German North Sea coast — it dates back to the 18th century. In addition to the spring edition in May, there is a second, equally traditional event in the autumn, which is timed around the long weekend of German Unity Day.
The 2026 autumn edition takes place from Thursday, October 1st to Monday, October 5th, 2026. The venue is the central Ritzebütteler Marktplatz in front of Ritzebüttel Castle — the historic heart of Cuxhaven.
The opening hours are clearly structured: daily 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The later opening hours compared to spring suit the shorter daylight hours in October — the fair thus shines particularly atmospherically at dusk and at night.
The Schnibbeltag (CN discount day) takes place on Friday, October 4th, 2026. On this day, many rides and stalls offer discounted prices — perfect for families and budget-conscious fair fans.
The autumn edition traditionally ends with grand closing fireworks on Monday, October 5th, 2026, around 9:45 PM. The market square and the surrounding city center become an open-air grandstand for the pyrotechnic finale. The simultaneous Family Day offers further discounts.
The offerings follow the classic fair format: rides (carousels, Ferris wheel, roller coaster elements, free fall, swing carousel), show booths, sweet stalls, food stalls (bratwurst, doughnuts, candied almonds, crêpes), shooting galleries.
Cuxhaven in October is the quieter version of the summer North Sea resort — wind, fog over the mudflats, clear days. The Herbst-Fleckenmarkt brings a welcome festive touch to the transitional season.
