11th edition of the Heimatfest Neu-Eichenberg, held only every five years in the border triangle region
The Heimatfest Neu-Eichenberg is a major event held every five years since 1971 by the municipality of Neu-Eichenberg. Its location in the border triangle of Southern Lower Saxony, Hesse, and Thuringia gives the festival a special character: guests, clubs, and participants come together from all three federal states, making the event an identity-building bridge between the three regions.
The 11th edition in 2026 is themed 'Tradition verbindet – Gemeinschaft erleben' (Tradition Connects – Experiencing Community). This theme shapes the entire festival weekend and underscores the event's character as a gathering and community festival that combines rural traditional customs with active civic engagement.
A highlight of the festival weekend is the project choir 'Die-von-hier', formed especially for the Heimatfest, with around 50 singers from the border triangle region. The choir is funded by Sparkasse Werra-Meißner, a regional financial partner supporting the project. The choir will perform twice: at the opening ceremony on Saturday and during the traditional 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) on Monday morning.
A grand festive parade will gather local clubs, businesses, and community groups from Neu-Eichenberg and the surrounding border triangle municipalities. The organizer explicitly calls for participation as walking groups or float groups, making the parade a participatory event that makes the community visible.
Even before the festival weekend, the 'Volkskönigsschießen' will be held on April 18th, 2026, at the Friedland shooting range to determine the new royal titles. The festive proclamation of the new monarchs will then take place at the Heimatfest, organically integrating the shooting tradition into the Heimatfest format.
With its 11th edition, the Heimatfest Neu-Eichenberg continues its five-year tradition, maintained since 1971. Preparations began in 2025, and the preliminary 'Volkskönigsschießen' on April 18th, 2026, at the Friedland shooting range marks the thematic start of the festival season.
