Summer community festival on the 3rd Saturday in June in the garden of Windeck Castle in Heidesheim am Rhein
The Heidesheimer Burggartenfest is a typical example of the volunteer-driven festival culture in Rheinhessen. It takes place every year on the third Saturday evening in June in the Burggarten of Burg Windeck in Heidesheim am Rhein, a historic site that gives the festival its special atmosphere.
Heidesheim am Rhein, a district of Ingelheim am Rhein since 2019, is located in northern Rheinhessen near the Rhine. Burg Windeck is a historic castle complex on the outskirts of the town, offering the castle garden as the setting for the festival. The garden, with its walls, trees, and the castle backdrop, creates an almost intimate, secluded mood – ideal for a summer festival that focuses on sociability and encounters.
The Burggartenfest is organized by the Förderverein Erntedankfest und Brauchtum Heidesheim, which supports local customs and the annual Erntedankfest (Harvest Festival). Almost all Heidesheim clubs are involved in the so-called Vereinsring (association ring): the carnival society, sports clubs, fire department, singing club, church choir, and other groups. This collective organization makes the festival a true community event.
Rheinhessen specialties are served at the club stands – wine from Heidesheim and Rheinhessen vintners, beer, bratwurst, Spundekäs, Handkäs mit Musik, Flammkuchen, and sweet specialties. Each club presents its own specialties, ensuring a diverse offering.
The musical accompaniment is usually provided by a live band performing outdoors in the castle garden. The repertoire typically ranges from rock and pop to cover classics and local Rheinhessen folk songs. The evening offers opportunities to stroll through the castle garden, visit the various club stands, and spend a relaxed summer evening against a historic backdrop.
The Heidesheimer Burggartenfest embodies the close connection between tradition, club life, and sociability – values that are typical of Rheinhessen's festival culture and are cultivated here in a particularly beautiful historic setting.
The 2026 edition continues the proven concept: a community festival of all Heidesheim clubs in the garden of Burg Windeck. Club stands with wine, beer, and Rheinhessen specialties, live music on the open-air stage, and social gatherings in a historic atmosphere.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
