Aschaffenburg's toughest Open Air for Hardcore, Metalcore, and Deathcore
For several years, Heavy Grounds Open Air has been the toughest festival date in the Bavarian Lower Main region. The organizers are the association Heavy Grounds e.V. and the booking collective I SAID Entertainment; the performances take place on the summer stage at the campus of the Technische Hochschule Aschaffenburg (Würzburger Straße 45). The musical spectrum ranges from Heavy Hardcore and Beatdown to Modern Metalcore and Deathcore – a deliberately hard but curated mix.
The festival has defined a clear profile: 'Hard music – yes. Hard pit – when appropriate. Crowd kill by those uninvolved in the pit – no!' This line is part of the Heavy Grounds identity and makes the Open Air a meeting point for the scene, consciously focusing on a peaceful pit culture. Children under 13 are admitted free when accompanied.
The venue is the open-air stage on the campus of the TH Aschaffenburg. The area is located on Würzburger Straße in the Damm district and is easily accessible by public transport and car. There are food trucks, drink stands, and band merchandise areas on the festival grounds.
Aschaffenburg, a district-free city in Bavarian Lower Franconia, is the largest city on the Lower Main. With Würzburg, Schweinfurt, and Frankfurt am Main nearby, the Heavy Grounds Open Air has a large catchment area for the hardcore and metal scene of Hesse and Lower Franconia.
Heavy Grounds Open Air 2026 brings together ten bands on the summer stage of the TH Aschaffenburg on Friday and Saturday, September 5 and 6. Doors open at 2:00 PM, start at 3:00 PM. The lineup covers the festival's entire spectrum: Modern Metalcore at the forefront, plus Heavy Hardcore, Beatdown, Death Metal, and Hardcore Punk.
