Summer transformation of Hameln's Old Town with furniture, ping-pong, plant islands, and KlimaKiste from June 1 to August 20, 2026
Hameln. Come as You Are! was awarded the German Tourism Prize in 2024 – placing among the Top 5 and winning the ADAC Audience Award. This award recognizes a pioneering initiative to revitalize historic city centers with low-threshold stay offerings.
From June 1 to August 20, 2026, the Old Town will be equipped with colorful furniture: loungers, chairs, and tables inviting visitors to linger. This spontaneous furnishing significantly changes the Old Town atmosphere, turning the shopping area into a living space.
Plant islands bring greenery to the historic cobblestone area. Trees, shrubs, and flowers mitigate heat and improve the microclimate. Thus, the initiative also contributes to climate adaptation in the city center.
Ping-pong tables, foosball, chessboards, and other game elements invite activity and interaction. This makes the Old Town not only a place to stay but also a meeting place.
Bicycle charging stations for e-bikes and mobile phone charging stations complement the offer with practical services that make the city stay easier for tourists and residents.
The KlimaKiste is an installation about climate change that aims to raise awareness of the changes while also presenting solutions. This gives the initiative a political and educational dimension.
The initiative is part of a broader trend to define city centers as spaces for staying beyond the retail model.
The complete 2026 program will be published by Hameln Marketing und Tourismus on hameln.de.
