About Hambach Jakobuskerwe

The Hambach Jakobuskerwe is the traditional Kirchweih of the Palatinate wine village Hambach. From Friday, July 24th to Tuesday, July 28th, 2026, it will be celebrated in the shadow of the famous Hambach Castle. The Kerwe dates back to St. James' Day (July 25th) and is one of Hambach's most traditional summer festivals. Over five festival days with well-coordinated opening hours: Friday 5 PM–2 AM, Saturday 4 PM–2 AM, Sunday 11 AM–1 AM, Monday 4 PM–1 AM, and Tuesday 5 PM–12 AM. Hambach wineries, Palatinate specialties, a Kerwe parade, and live music in the festival tent characterize the program.

The Hambach Jakobuskerwe is one of the most traditional Palatinate summer Kirwais and the most important Hambach summer festival of the year. It dates back to St. James' Day on July 25th – the feast day of the Apostle James, which historically became the occasion for Kirchweih celebrations in many Palatinate communities.

The 2026 edition takes place from Friday, July 24th to Tuesday, July 28th. The venue is the traditional festival grounds in Hambach, below the famous Hambach Castle. The address Weinstraße 264 marks the center of the Hambach local administration, from where the Kerwe is organized.

The opening hours of the Kerwe follow the classic Palatinate pattern: starting on Friday evening (5 PM–2 AM), the main visitor day on Saturday (4 PM–2 AM) with a long festival night, a quieter Sunday with a morning pint (11 AM–1 AM), family and club day on Monday (4 PM–1 AM), and a gentle festival conclusion on Tuesday (5 PM–12 AM).

Throughout all festival days, the Hambach wineries open their courtyards and serve their wines – Hambach is one of the most respected Palatinate wine villages with excellent vineyards around the Schlossberge (Castle Hills). Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Rosé wines characterize the oenological offerings.

The Palatinate culinary delights offer the classic festival dishes: Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Quetschekuche (plum cake), Flammkuchen (tarte flambée), and much more. The highlight of the festival days is the traditional Kerwe parade on the weekend and live music in the festival tent, which creates a festive atmosphere every evening.

The location below Hambach Castle – the symbol of the German democratic movement of 1832 – provides a special setting for the Kerwe. Visitors to the festival should definitely also visit the castle, which is accessible from Hambach on foot or by shuttle.
