Weekly tours through the medieval Wolfsburg castle ruins from April to October
The Wolfsburg tours by the Wolfsburg Association Neustadt are a proven Palatinate cultural event series that offers weekly tours through the medieval Wolfsburg castle ruins every year from April to October. The 2026 season runs from Friday, April 10th to Friday, October 30th, 2026.
The tours take place every Friday at 3 PM and each lasts approximately 1.5 hours. In total, the season comprises around 30 weekly dates – a packed schedule that gives every visitor to the Palatinate and every resident of Neustadt the opportunity to explore the castle ruins with expert guidance.
The Wolfsburg castle ruins are one of the significant Palatinate monuments. It sits high above Neustadt on a rocky outcrop at the edge of the Haardt mountains and looks back on a history dating back to the early Middle Ages – the first documented mentions are from the 11th century. For centuries, Wolfsburg was an important Palatinate hilltop castle, serving to control important transport routes and defend the region. It was heavily damaged during the Thirty Years' War and later conflicts and eventually abandoned.
Today, an impressive ruin remains of the once-grand complex – wall remnants, towers, courtyards, and cellars that convey an impression of its former size and function. The Wolfsburg Association is dedicated to the care, preservation, and cultural revitalization of this Palatinate cultural heritage site.
The tours not only convey the history and architecture of the castle but also Palatinate history in a broader sense: the importance of hilltop castles in the medieval Palatinate region, the role of the wine and trade routes, and the religious and political conflicts that have left their mark here.
An additional attraction: The views from Wolfsburg over the Rhine Valley and the wine villages along the Haardt are spectacular. A tour thus combines cultural history, nature experience, and exercise – ideal for active visitors to the Palatinate.
The 2026 season of the Wolfsburg tours includes every Friday over a seven-month season from April to the end of October. The consistent format – every Friday at 3 PM, duration 1.5 hours – makes the event predictable and reliably accessible.
The event is part of the rich Palatinate festival culture, which attracts thousands of visitors to the Neustadt an der Weinstraße region every year. The combination of wine culture, Palatinate hospitality, and established festival traditions forms the unmistakable identity of this Palatinate festival institution.
