Gettorf Zoo in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde District
Gettorf Zoo is located on the outskirts of the municipality of Gettorf in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district (Schleswig-Holstein), about 15 km north of Kiel. On an area of approximately 5 hectares, over 600 animals of about 100 species live, including maned wolves, meerkats, lemurs, monkeys, kangaroos, donkeys, and petting goats. The family park has been a popular excursion destination in the Eckernförde-Kiel region for decades.
Halloween – A Special Activity Day
Once a year – on the days around Halloween – Gettorf Zoo opens its gates late into the evening. The classic family park becomes a stage for spooky stations, puzzles, and eerie experiences. It is not a horror park or a scare attraction, but a child-friendly Halloween variant with tests of courage, craft activities, quiz challenges, and an unusual atmosphere: animals in the evening light, pumpkin decorations, and little shivers.
What You Will Experience
- Spooky games and quizzes throughout the park grounds
- Eerie experiences for all senses (touch, hearing, sight)
- Tests of courage and small frights
- Extended opening hours until 8:30 PM
- Campfire with stick bread baking on the playground to wind down
- Animals in the evening light – a different perspective on the zoo
A Family Event with a North German Touch
Compared to commercial horror events, Gettorf Zoo sees its Halloween activity as a family event. The tests of courage are designed so that even primary school children can participate. However, children under 10 years old may only participate in the evening program if accompanied by an adult – a safety rule because the park is partially accessible only by paths and lights in the dark. After the program, the team gathers all guests around the campfire to bake stick bread – a relaxed end to a slightly different zoo visit.
