Pentecost weekend sausage festival of the Hösbach Red Cross — Franconian specialty celebration
The Häisbischer Brodworschtfest is one of those small, distinctive club festivals that play a central role in Lower Franconian club life. It is organized not by the market town or a traditional festival operator, but by the Hösbach unit of the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) — a volunteer emergency response team that finances its work through the festival while also inviting the village community to a social gathering.
Hösbach is a market town in the Aschaffenburg district of Lower Franconia (Bavaria), northeast of Aschaffenburg on the A 3 motorway (Frankfurt–Würzburg). With around 13,000 inhabitants and several districts, the market town is one of the larger communities in the Aschaffenburg foothills of the Spessart. The dialect name "Häisbisch" for Hösbach also shapes the festival name — "Brodworscht" is dialect for Bratwurst (sausage).
What sets the Brodworschtfest apart from other Lower Franconian club festivals is its clear thematic focus: six different types of sausages. The BRK unit focuses on a culinary highlight that goes far beyond the usual "sausage and beer" offering of a club festival. Classic Bratwurst, cheese Bratwurst, chili Bratwurst, currywurst, Krainer sausage, and other variations — depending on suppliers and the festival year — are part of the repertoire.
The festival takes place around the Pentecost weekend — a time when the weather in Lower Franconia is often already summery and people enjoy celebrating outdoors. Pentecost is a long weekend in Bavaria with Whit Monday as a public holiday, which is why many club festivals are concentrated in rural areas at Pentecost.
The official event calendar of the Aschaffenburg district for 2026 lists May 24, 2026, as the date for the Häisbischer Brodworschtfest. It is the 4th edition of the festival, following its initial runs in 2022/2023 (Pentecost weekend). In just a few years, the festival has become an integral part of the Lower Franconian club event calendar.
The 4th edition of the Häisbischer Brodworschtfest is listed in the official event calendar of the Aschaffenburg district for Sunday, May 24, 2026 — a typical Pentecost weekend date, when numerous club festivals are concentrated in Lower Franconia.
The venue is the Hösbach BRK headquarters. The Red Cross unit offers its core specialty — six different types of sausages — grilled and served in bread for takeaway or to enjoy at a table. Drinks, cakes, and other food are also available.
The festival runs throughout Pentecost Sunday and is a meeting point for Hösbach residents as well as guests from the Aschaffenburg district. Proceeds go towards the equipment, training, and operational readiness of the Hösbach unit.
Detailed times and program highlights will be published in advance on the Facebook page of the Hösbach BRK unit and at brk-hoesbach.jimdofree.com.
