Grand Summer Wine Festival in the Baroque Wine Village of Hainfeld on the Südliche Weinstraße on the third weekend of August
The Hainfelder Weinkerwe is the largest summer wine festival in the Baroque wine village of Hainfeld on the Südliche Weinstraße. From Friday, August 14, 2026, to Monday, August 17, 2026, the village with its magnificent 17th and 18th-century winegrower courtyards transforms into an open festival scene. Hainfeld wineries open their courtyards, associations serve wine, and Palatinate specialties complement the offerings.
In August, the Weinkerwe follows the early summer Hainfelder Weinrunde (weekend after Pentecost). While the Weinrunde in May/June focuses on an intimate format with finger food, the Weinkerwe is the big summer festival – with a festival tent, live music, dance evenings, and a family program. Both formats complement each other and make Hainfeld a year-round active wine destination.
Hainfeld is one of the most beautiful wine villages in the Palatinate. The historical village structure with its broad winegrower courtyards and magnificent bourgeois houses from the 17th and 18th centuries has been largely preserved. During the Weinkerwe, this architectural substance unfolds as a backdrop: many courtyards open their gates, the inner courtyards are used for tables, benches, and stages, and the central festival grounds bundle the main program.
Hainfeld's wine scene is one of the densest on the Südliche Weinstraße. Several wineries with long family traditions and newer organic and natural wine producers shape the landscape. During the Weinkerwe, many wineries open their courtyards and wine taverns, serving wine directly and offering matching dishes. Riesling, white and Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, Dornfelder, sparkling wines, and rosé cover the range.
In contrast to the intimate Weinrunde in May/June, the Weinkerwe in August has a festival tent format: live bands, dance evenings, morning pint with brass music, DJ sets late into the night. Local associations provide catering with Palatinate specialties – Saumagen, Bratwurst, Leberknödel, Flammkuchen, Pfälzer Kartoffelsuppe – at several snack stands.
Hainfeld is located on the Südliche Weinstraße between Edenkoben and Landau, framed by vineyards and the Pfälzerwald forest. Its location on the wine hiking trail “Trifelsland” makes it a popular stop for wine hikers and day-trippers. During the Weinkerwe, wine hiking combines excellently with attending the festival – many visitors take a Sunday morning hike through the vineyards and return to the Kerwe for lunch.
Four days of Palatinate wine culture. Riesling, Burgundy family, Cuvées, sparkling wines, rosé. Palatinate specialties, draft beer, live music. The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
