Harbour Festival at the Museum Harbour
The Hafenfete Carolinensiel is one of the charming weekend harbour festivals on the East Frisian North Sea coast. In 2026, the event will take place from May 23rd to 24th – Saturday from 11 am to 10 pm, Sunday from 10 am. The venue is the historic Museumshafen Carolinensiel, one of the most important Sielhafen locations in Lower Saxony.
Carolinensiel – A Sielhafen Town with History
Carolinensiel was founded in 1729 and is a classic Sielhafen town: a harbour connected to the sea via a sluice (Siel), which formed the economic basis for the surrounding marsh villages. The Museumshafen with its historic flat-bottomed sailing ships, cutters, and maritime exhibits is part of the German Sielhafen Museum and brings the history of the Frisian coastal sailors to life.
Programme: Music, Maritime Flair, and Delights
The Hafenfete brings together three classic pillars of maritime festival culture:
- Live music on the harbour square – regional acts and cover bands
- Maritime atmosphere with ship tours, onboard programmes, rope and knot demonstrations
- Regional culinary delights – fish specialities, shrimp rolls, East Frisian baked goods, drinks
With the Village Community
The event is organised by Nordseebad Carolinensiel-Harlesiel GmbH in close cooperation with the Dorfgemeinschaft Carolinensiel. This local connection makes the Hafenfete authentic: clubs, initiatives, and residents are active co-organisers and shape the character of the event.
Family-Friendly and Free
The Hafenfete is designed to be family-friendly and admission is free. This makes it one of the accessible weekend events on the East Frisian coast, attracting locals, day-trippers, and holidaymakers alike. Anyone visiting Carolinensiel in May should mark this weekend in their calendar.
