St. Marienberg Monastery — Sacred Acoustics

St. Marienberg Monastery in Helmstedt is one of the city's most significant spiritual foundations. The Romanesque-Gothic monastery church offers exceptional sacred acoustics — the long reverberation carries voices and strings, and the high vault lends a special dignity to every sound. The church is a first-class venue for classical concerts.

Pentecost as a Concert Date

For centuries, Pentecost has been a major feast day in the Christian church year and is associated with special works in the tradition of sacred music. Bach composed several Pentecost cantatas, and Mendelssohn and many other composers dedicated festive works to the Pentecost festival. The Pentecost concert at St. Marienberg builds on this tradition.

Staatsorchester Braunschweig as Partner

The Staatsorchester Braunschweig is a regular guest of the Grenzenlos Klassik series and also performs many Pentecost concerts at St. Marienberg. With its first-class wind, string, and percussion sections, it is capable of performing both Baroque works in chamber music settings and large symphonies.

The Grenzenlos Klassik series looks back on more than 52 seasons. With concerts at the Juleum, the Brunnentheater Bad Helmstedt, Mariental Monastery, and St. Marienberg, it is the musical backbone of Helmstedt's classical music scene. The organizer is the Helmstedter Verein für Kultur.
