Greetsiel is not only one of the most photographed villages on the German North Sea coast but also a place where maritime conviviality is paramount. The Greetsieler Bierfest harnesses this atmosphere, turning the harbour into a relaxed meeting point for three days to celebrate North German beer tradition. Both classic East Frisian breweries and smaller manufactories from Bremen, Oldenburg, the Emsland region, and occasionally the Netherlands are represented. Pilsner, Helles, and East Frisian Landbier dominate the range, complemented by seasonal specialities such as wheat beer, stout, and the occasional craft beer. For those with a sweet tooth, there are East Frisian specialities like Mehlbeutel (flour dumplings) or Klootscheeten-Kuchen (a type of cake). Several Greetsiel restaurants and cafés on Sielstraße extend their opening hours and participate in the festival with their own outdoor stands.

As dusk falls, the festival's atmosphere changes. The lights of the anchored crab cutters are reflected in the harbour basin, and various bands play maritime songs, cover classics, and East Frisian folk music on the stage. The festival tables often remain occupied until midnight.
