38th Edition – Six Weeks of Cultural Programming Across Multiple City Venues
For almost four decades, the Göttingen Summer of Culture has been a firm fixture in the city's cultural life, shaping the summer months of July and August. With a mix of established stages and alternative venues, renowned artists and promising newcomers, high culture and cabaret, the Kultursommer has carved out its own distinct profile. The target audience includes the citizens of Göttingen, students, and a growing number of cultural tourists from the region.
Each of the four main venues has its own unique character. The Deutsches Theater Göttingen, with its classic bourgeois profile, is the city's established stage. The Altes Rathaus serves as a historically significant event location. The Dots is an alternative cultural venue focusing on singer-songwriters and indie music. The Nörgelbuff, as the city's cabaret stage, is the meeting point for political satire and comedy. The mix of venues is integral to the concept, enabling a versatile program.
The 2026 program brings together a remarkable selection of artists. Max Uthoff, one of the most distinguished cabaret artists in the German-speaking world, is a major attraction. Kat Frankie will present her unique singer-songwriter compositions on stage. Nina Hoger, one of Germany's most renowned actresses, will host a literary evening. Max Prosa, Hotel Rimini, and Jules are other names from the contemporary German singer-songwriter scene.
With the Larifari Kindersommer, the Kultursommer has its own program strand for families and children. This ensures the festival is conceived from the outset as a cross-generational event, catering not only to the adult cultural audience.
The Kultursommer concludes with the KWP Festival on August 14th and 15th, 2026, in the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Park (Stadtwald). With acts like Blues Pills, Young Gun Silver Fox, and Delta Constellations, the Kultursommer provides a rocking finale to six weeks of programming.
The Kultursommer is a curated festival with a clear programming philosophy. Instead of a mass spectacle, the festival focuses on qualitative selection, diverse venues, and a mix of established names and promising newcomers. This distinct profile has made the Kultursommer a permanent fixture in the summer cultural landscape of Lower Saxony.
The spatial distribution across four main venues allows for program diversity with a clear profile. Those who love cabaret will find their program at the Nörgelbuff. Those seeking singer-songwriters will go to the Dots. Those who want to see classical theatre will choose the Deutsches Theater. Those seeking a historic ambiance will go to the Altes Rathaus.
