Two-day summer Volksfest at the marina of the Baltic seaside resort Glowe
Glowe, a state-recognized Baltic seaside resort on the north coast of Rügen (Vorpommern-Rügen district), is one of the island's most popular holiday destinations. The marina at Königshörn – a small harbour with berths for sailors and motorboat owners from the Bodden lagoon – is the meeting point for island guests and residents in summer. Once a year in July, this harbour becomes the centrepiece of a large Volksfest: the Glowe Harbour Festival.
The festival traditionally lasts for two days, running from midday until late into the night. Unlike commercial beach parties, the Harbour Festival is deliberately designed to be accessible: free admission, families are warmly welcomed, and it's designed to be intergenerational. During the day, the focus is on a family programme, face painting, a bouncy castle, and small games. In the late afternoon, the first live concerts begin on the festival stage – usually regional cover bands, singer-songwriters from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, or blues-rock combos. In the evening, DJs take over the programme, playing party music until 1 AM.
The culinary offerings match the location: smoked fish directly from the Bodden waters, fresh grilled fish, bratwurst, fries, vegetarian options, crêpes, accompanied by Glowe beer, Aperol, and wine from the regional selection. Between the stands, long wooden benches under fairy lights await, perfect for lingering. The view extends over the yachts in the harbour to the Bodden lagoon and the Wittow peninsula.
The Harbour Festival has been an integral part of the summer programme of the municipality of Ostseebad Glowe for many years. It attracts not only beachgoers but also long-time Glowe residents and inhabitants of the surrounding villages. For many families, the weekend – usually coinciding with the summer holidays in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – is a fixed date in their annual calendar. Ship traffic in the harbour also largely pauses for the festival, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
In 2026, the marina at Königshörn will once again transform into a large festival mile for a weekend. It starts on Saturday at 1 PM — with summery weather, the harbour quickly fills with families, beachgoers, and island residents. In the afternoon, there's a family programme, around 6 PM the first live concerts start, and from 10 PM DJs take over until 1 AM.
On Sunday, the schedule repeats in a more relaxed manner — a morning pint (Frühschoppen) in the morning, live music in the afternoon, and a cosy end to the festival in the evening.
The exact artist lineup for 2026 will be published a few weeks before the festival. Free admission, food and drinks available at the harbour stands.
The full programme with artist lineup will be announced shortly before the festival via glowe.de. Cancellation possible depending on weather.
