About Gimbsheimer Kerb

The Gimbsheimer Kerb is the traditional Kirchweihfest (church consecration festival) of the Rhine village of Gimbsheim and takes place every year in September. The exact date for 2026 will be published by the Gimbsheim Kerb community in the summer – the Kerb royalty for 2025-2026 have already been chosen and the Instagram profile of the Kerwemädcher is active. For four days, from Friday to Monday, the town center transforms into a festival mile with wine, beer, hearty cuisine, live music, and all the elements of a classic Rhenish-Hessian Kerb. The Kerwemajestäten – usually young women from the village who accompany the Kerb as ambassadors – are the most visible symbol of Gimbsheim's vibrant Kerb tradition.

The Kerb Royalty – Ambassadors of Tradition

A special feature of the Gimbsheim Kerb is the Kerwemajestäten, the annually elected ambassadors of the festival. These young women, known in Gimbsheim as Kerwemädcher, take on representative duties during their term: they open the Kerb, march in a prominent position in the festival parade, represent the Kerb community at other festivals in the region, and are the social figureheads of the Kerb. With their active Instagram profile, the current Kerwemädcher (2025-2026 season) also maintain a modern form of communication, making the tradition visible to younger generations.

September as the Festival Date

The Gimbsheim Kerb traditionally takes place in September. In 2024, it ran from September 20th to 23rd; a similar date is expected for 2026. September is the most important Kerb month in the Rhenish-Hessian festival calendar, with almost every municipality celebrating its own Kerb. The harvest season is in full swing, the first Federweißer (new wine) is ready, and the days are still warm enough for festivities outdoors.

Four Days of Festivities from Friday to Monday

The festival program follows the classic Rhenish-Hessian Kerb schedule: Friday evening opening with the tapping of the first keg and the first concert night, Saturday the liveliest day with a major concert on the main stage, Sunday family day with a morning pint (Frühschoppen), a festival service, and the grand Kerb parade in the afternoon, and Monday the cozy Kerb Monday with the festival's conclusion. Food is served by local clubs with Rhenish-Hessian classics and wines from Gimbsheim vintners.

Gimbsheim as a Rhine Village

Gimbsheim is located directly on the Rhine, combining two characteristics: the wine culture of Rhenish Hesse and the Middle Rhine landscape. The Rhine banks and the floodplain forests offer attractive opportunities for excursions before or after visiting the Kerb. Those with time can take a hike along the Rhine dike or a bike tour on the Rhine Cycle Route.
