Intercultural Festival in downtown Gifhorn with the motto: We all belong in Gifhorn
Gifhorn is a city with a distinctly international population. More than a hundred nationalities live here together; around 7,500 residents with a history of migration shape social life. The intercultural festival in the pedestrian zone makes this diversity visible once a year – as a day of encounter, information, and shared celebration.
Behind the festival stands an alliance of migrant associations, cultural communities, and cooperation partners: the Greek Community Gifhorn, the Turkish-Kurdish Cultural Association Cevher, the Alevi Community, the Turkish-German Educational and Integration Association Kalem e.V., the Friends of Polish Culture Association, the African Cultural Association, and many other groups contribute to the festival. Each group designs its own stand with music, food, dance, and information.
The motto “We all belong in Gifhorn” clearly articulates the festival's stance: diversity is presented not as an exception, but as lived normality. The event aims to build bridges, enable mutual getting to know each other, and make the immigrant communities visible as an integral part of Gifhorn's urban society.
On a central stage in the pedestrian zone, dance and music groups from various countries of origin alternate throughout the day. Folk dances, traditional songs, modern pop performances, and crossover projects showcase the musical spectrum of Gifhorn's migrant community. Stalls offer specialties from around the world – from Greek and Turkish classics to African and Asian dishes, and Polish baked goods.
For seven hours, the pedestrian zone will transform into a colorful festival mile. From the Ceka Fountain to Hindenburgstraße, stalls of individual associations and communities will offer food, information materials, and small items for sale. The central stage is the focal point, where dance and music groups alternate throughout the day.
Folklore from Greece and Turkey, Polish folk dances, African drumming groups, Kurdish songs, and Alevi Semah dances showcase the musical spectrum of Gifhorn's migrant community. The stage program is complemented by modern pop and crossover performances by young artists from the various communities.
