Whitsun Garden Festival with approx. 140 exhibitors around the Leibniz Temple in Hanover's Georgengarten
The Garden Festival in Georgengarten is one of the most renowned garden events in Northern Germany. It traditionally takes place on Whitsun and attracts garden enthusiasts from all over Northern Germany and beyond. The combination of a historic garden — the Georgengarten is one of the four Herrenhausen Gardens — and a curated selection of exhibitors makes the festival a special experience that goes far beyond a classic plant market.
The selection of exhibitors is strictly curated. Those who get a stand bring outstanding plant rarities, unusual varieties, their own breeds, or high-quality garden accessories. The range includes: specialized perennial nurseries, rose breeders, bonsai importers, tree nurseries with unusual specimen trees, herb specialists, tomato and vegetable rarity vendors, specialists for aquatic plants, plants for shady gardens, climbing plants, and wild perennials.
In addition to the plant stands, artists and craftspeople present their garden art: sculptures made of bronze, steel, stone, and ceramics, artistic water bowls, trellises, pergolas, insect hotels, birdhouses, sun sails, and garden furniture. Those who want to artistically enhance their own garden will find a variety of inspiration and concrete offers here.
Several stands offer natural cosmetics with plant ingredients, essential oils, herbal teas, honey, jams, and culinary specialties such as herb pesto, wild herb salt, flower syrup, and smoking blends. Tool specialists showcase high-quality Japanese garden shears, ergonomic spades, organic plant protection products, and substrate specialties.
The Leibniz Temple in the center of the Georgengarten is one of Hanover's most beautiful garden architectures. Built in 1790 according to plans by Friedrich Maria Christian Stahn, the classicist temple honors the great Hanoverian universal scholar Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. During the festival, it forms the natural center of the exhibitor arrangement — the stands are arranged concentrically around it.
Over the four days, there will be lectures on topics such as nature-oriented gardening, insect-friendly plantings, tomato diversity, rose pruning, or bonsai care. Live music accompanies the program — mostly acoustic sets, string quartets, folk bands. Families will find hands-on stations, craft activities, and child-friendly offerings. The admission of 14 Euros for adults includes entry to the festival.
The exact exhibitor list and accompanying program will be published on hannover.de and herrenhaeuser-gaerten.de.
