Eight-day football tournament with a folk festival character in the Sehlem district of Lamspringe
When the floodlights switch on at the VFL Sehlem sports field at the end of July, one of the most intense weeks of the club year begins. The Football Cup Week combines sporting ambition with village festival culture and attracts players, fans, and families from all over the Lamspringe area every summer.
VFL Sehlem is deeply rooted in the club life of the Sehlem district. Throughout the week, amateur, veterans', and youth teams from neighbouring municipalities compete against each other. Matches are played on the home grass pitch, where the tournament unfolds through several preliminary rounds and cup games. The highlight is the grand final and the presentation of the challenge cup.
Alongside the sporting programme, a festival tent with long beer benches opens, inviting guests to toast together. Bratwurst, fries, cold beer, and coffee and cake on the weekend – the club members themselves take care of the catering. On selected evenings, DJs or local bands provide the entertainment, turning a sports evening into a real village festival.
The municipality of Lamspringe is located in the south of the Hildesheim district, nestled in a landscape of meadows, forests, and gentle hills on the edge of the Leinebergland. The Sehlem district, with its active club life, is a prime example of how intact village communities shape an entire region. Those who combine a visit to the tournament with a walk through the old monastery village of Lamspringe or a trip to the nearby foothills of the Harz Mountains will discover one of Lower Saxony's quiet yet scenically attractive corners.
Over the eight days, preliminary, intermediate, and final matches will be held in several competition categories. Typically, men's, veterans', and youth teams compete, supplemented by amateur teams from the surrounding districts.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the organiser in spring and summer. The structure follows the proven points of previous years: daily matches in the afternoon and evening, cosy get-togethers in the festival tent, enhanced musical accompaniment on weekends, and a family day with activities for children.
The final kick-off times and participating teams will be announced by VFL Sehlem in the event calendar of the municipality of Lamspringe.
The Football Cup Week takes place from July 20th to 27th, 2026. The exact kick-off times for the matches will be published by VFL Sehlem shortly before the start.
