The Schötmar Tradition — Spring Fair in the Bürger-Viertel

The Frühjahrskirmes Schötmar is the most important spring event in the Schötmar district of Bad Salzuflen and a fixed date in the calendar of the Lippe region. From Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 19, 2026, the center of Schötmar will be transformed into a funfair scene with carousels, shooting galleries, dodgems, and a rich program of folk festival food. The fair is traditionally organized by the Bürgerverein Schötmar e.V., one of the most active local associations in Lipperland.

Schötmar — the District of Bad Salzuflen

Schötmar — now an integrated district of Bad Salzuflen — has retained its own identity. With around 12,000 inhabitants, Schötmar is as large as a small town. The annual spring fair is one of the most important identity-building events and attracts families from the surrounding towns of Herford, Lemgo, Bad Salzuflen-Mitte, and the entire Lippe district.

Kick-off of the Lippe Funfair Season

The Schötmar spring fair is traditionally the start of the funfair season in the Lippe district. Those who want to experience the funfair season from April to September start in Schötmar. Subsequent dates include the Pentecost fair in Lemgo, the Herford Schützenmarkt (marksmen's fair), and the Detmold spring fair.

Bad Salzuflen — Spa Town with Tradition

Bad Salzuflen is one of the most renowned spa towns in Ostwestfalen — known for its brine baths and late-classical cityscape. Schötmar is located three kilometers east of the spa town center. Those who want to combine the fair with a day in Bad Salzuflen can visit the Schötmar market in the morning and explore the spa park in the afternoon.
