The Freilichtspiele Tecklenburg is one of the most important open-air theaters in Northern Germany — a professional open-air stage with a repertoire of musicals, plays, and family productions that changes annually. In the 2026 season, Freilichtspiele Tecklenburg gGmbH is bringing the family musical SNOW WHITE AND ME to the stage, among other productions — a modern, fresh stage adaptation of the classic Snow White fairy tale with music by British composer Pippa Cleary.

SNOW WHITE AND ME — The Modern Snow White Adaptation

The musical SNOW WHITE AND ME is by the renowned British musical composer Pippa Cleary. The production interprets the classic Snow White fairy tale in a modern and child-friendly way: without the clichés of the original story, featuring strong female characters, modern musical numbers, and a message that aligns with contemporary family values. Suitable for children aged 4 and up and their parents.

The Tecklenburg Open-Air Stage — A Special Venue

The Tecklenburg Open-Air Stage is one of the most beautiful open-air theater stages in Northern Germany. Nestled in the medieval town of Tecklenburg in the Tecklenburger Land region, with its natural stone grandstand and stage architecture that blends into the surrounding landscape. The acoustics in the open air and the atmosphere of a historic open-air venue are unmistakable.

Tecklenburg — The Town in the Teutoburg Forest

Tecklenburg (approx. 9,000 inhabitants) is located in the Steinfurt district, on the northern edge of the Teutoburg Forest. The medieval town layout with its castle, half-timbered houses, and town walls makes Tecklenburg one of the most beautiful small town ensembles in the Münsterland region. The Freilichtspiele are the town's most important cultural highlight, attracting thousands of visitors annually from across the Münsterland and beyond.

School Performances and Family Program

A central element of the Tecklenburg season is the school performances: on Wednesday mornings in June, classes from all over the Münsterland are invited to experience the family musical during a special performance. Teachers can reserve tickets through the theater. For regular family performances on weekends, early booking is recommended — the Tecklenburg family musicals are regularly sold out.

A Professional Production

The Freilichtspiele Tecklenburg work with a professional acting crew, elaborate stage design, and their own orchestra/playback. The production is usually prepared over several months and then performed almost daily from May onwards.
