17 Days of Free Admission at Backstage Munich
The free&easy Festival is the major summer event of the Munich cultural center Backstage. For around 17 days, the entire grounds on Reitknechtstraße are transformed into a continuously programmed festival area – and with free admission. Optional reservation tickets can be secured in advance for concerts in the Werk, Halle, and Club venues.
The program is spread across three indoor stages (Werk, Halle, Club), an open-air stage, and the open grounds with a beer garden. It offers concerts, parties, films, performance art, comedy, and talks – a deliberately broad spectrum ranging from newcomers to established acts.
Stylistically, the free&easy is deliberately open: Indie and Rock, Metal and Hardcore, Hip-Hop, and Electro stand side by side. For decades, Backstage has been a fixture of Munich's subculture and alternative music scene – the festival is the annual crystallization of this identity.
Backstage is located in western Munich (Neuhausen-Nymphenburg district), easily accessible by tram. Munich, as an independent city in the state of Bavaria, is the venue; the free&easy is considered one of the most important free festivals in the state capital.
From July 24 to August 9, 2026, the free&easy Festival will take place at Backstage Munich – “17 DAYS OF FREE CONCERTS & MORE!”. Several indoor and outdoor venues on the entire Backstage grounds on Reitknechtstraße will be active simultaneously. In addition to concerts, there will be parties, comedy, talks, and a night beer garden.
Stylistically, the program ranges from Indie, Rock, and Metal to Hip-Hop and Electro – from newcomers to established acts. Admission to the festival is free; reservation tickets are available for selected concerts.
The full lineup and timetable will be published by the organizer in good time on the Backstage website and via Instagram (@free_and_easy_festival).
