International food trucks and specialties on the Rathausplatz with Sunday shopping
The Frankenthaler Street Food Festival from April 10th to 12th, 2026, transforms the Rathausplatz into an international culinary mile. Food trucks and stalls from all over the world present their specialties — from Asian Bao-Buns to Mexican Tacos, Italian Pizza, and American Burgers, to vegan delicacies and local Palatinate specialties. On Sunday, April 12th, a Sunday shopping event from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM invites you to stroll through the city center, with a free city bus facilitating mobility.
Nestled between the spring market and upcoming spring events, the festival positions Frankenthal as a hotspot for modern festival culture.
Street Food Festivals have experienced a real boom in Germany over the last ten years. What began as a Californian avant-garde with converted food trucks has become an established form of urban culinary art today. Frankenthal has joined this trend and hosts the Frankenthaler Street Food Festival annually — a three-day culinary journey around the Rathausplatz.
The selection of food trucks is international and diverse: Asian cuisine with Bao-Buns, Sushi variations, Japanese Yakitori, Korean Bibimbap, and Pad Thai; Latin American specialties with Tacos, Quesadillas, and Brazilian Coxinhas; Italian Pizza and Pasta from wood-fired ovens; American Burgers, Pulled Pork, and Smokehouse BBQ; vegan and vegetarian alternatives; local Palatinate specialties such as Saumagen variations and sweet temptations from the bakery workshop.
Sunday, April 12th, is declared a shopping day from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Frankenthal's shops open their doors, cafés and restaurants invite you to linger, and the city bus runs free of charge through the city center in cooperation with VRN. This combination of street food, shopping, and mobility makes Sunday an urban feel-good day.
Besides the culinary offerings, the atmosphere is important. Live DJ sets, occasional acoustic live performances, seating areas with a festive table ambiance, fairy lights in the evening, and the warm spring sun during the day create an urban festival feeling that sets it apart from normal market events.
The festival starts on Friday, April 10th, after the regular Friday market — a pragmatic solution that sensibly combines two event formats. The transition period between the end of the weekly market and the start of the festival allows for a quick setup of the square.
