More than a Rally – a Demonstration of Classic Culture

The Franken Classic is Bavaria's largest oldtimer rally and ranks among the three most important classic car events in Germany, alongside the Sachsen Classic and the Ennstal-Classic. With around 150 participating teams – vehicles manufactured before 1985 – and a three-day route format through Spessart, Rhön, Saaletal, and Maintal, the rally combines competitive character, cultural staging, and tourist appeal.

Bad Kissingen as Start/Finish

The rally starts and finishes in the Bad Kissingen city center – the UNESCO World Heritage spa town provides a prestigious setting for vehicle presentations, receptions, and the closing ceremony. The choice of Bad Kissingen as the rally's home port is programmatic: the upscale spa town ambiance perfectly complements classic car culture, and the city center offers the necessary staging areas and hotel capacity.

Route and Stages

The rally runs over three days:

  • Friday, Prologue: approx. 80 km – usually a fast introductory stage, often with tricky regularity tests, through the surroundings of Bad Kissingen
  • Saturday, Main Stage: approx. 200–250 km through Spessart and Rhön – characteristic Franconian low mountain range landscape with winding country roads and viewpoints
  • Sunday, Final Stage: approx. 200 km through the Saaletal and Maintal – routes along the rivers with Franconian wine villages

The Audience: 100,000 Spectators

One of the remarkable features of the rally is its audience reach: around 100,000 spectators line the route. This is significantly more than at many other classic car events – the Franken Classic has succeeded in establishing itself as a regional Volksfest (public festival) format, with local clubs, catering, public address systems, and a festive atmosphere at various points along the route.

Organizers and Tradition

The organizer is Franken Classic Veranstaltungs GmbH, based in Karlstadt. The motto "Fahren wie Gott in Franken" (Driving like God in Franconia) – a play on the old German saying "Leben wie Gott in Frankreich" (Living like God in France) – is programmatic: the rally explicitly incorporates Franconian culture, Franconian wine, Franconian beer, and Franconian conviviality as part of its concept. The rally celebrated its 25th edition in 2025; 2026 will be the 26th edition.

Franken Classic — edition 2026

The 26th Franken Classic will take place from May 22 to 24, 2026. Start and finish in Bad Kissingen. Approximately 100,000 spectators along the route. Registration for 2026 via franken-classic.com.

26th Franken Classic in May 2026

Following its 25th anniversary in 2025, the rally enters its 26th edition in 2026. The venue and format remain unchanged: Pentecost weekend, start/finish in Bad Kissingen, a three-day rally covering 500 km through Spessart, Rhön, and Saaletal.
