Four-day spring Volksfest at Otto-Thiele-Platz with Family Day and grand fireworks
Gartenstadt is one of Ludwigshafen's traditional districts, established in the early 20th century as a garden city in the spirit of the English Garden City Movement. With its terraced houses, green spaces, and distinct urban structure, the quarter has retained its unique character.
For decades, Otto-Thiele-Platz in the center of Gartenstadt has served as a district square and festival venue. During the festival days, rides, a festival tent, and food stalls are set up, transforming the square into a compact Volksfest landscape.
Thursday, April 23rd, is designed as a Family Day. Reduced prices at many rides, children's entertainment, and a child-friendly food selection attract families from Gartenstadt and surrounding districts. Thus, the festival consciously shifts its focus to children and families at its opening.
The highlight of the festival weekend is the grand Frühlingsfest fireworks display on Friday, April 24th, around 9:45 PM. It will be launched over Otto-Thiele-Platz and will be visible throughout much of Gartenstadt. The fireworks are considered one of the most popular moments of the year in the district.
In the Ludwigshafen Kirmes calendar, the Frühlingsfest Gartenstadt follows the March "Sommertage" (summer days) in Oggersheim and Mundenheim, and precedes the Pfingstweidefest at the end of May. It thus marks the third stop on the spring Volksfest circuit in the city's districts.
Otto-Thiele-Platz transforms into a Volksfest setting with rides, a festival tent, and food stalls. The Friday evening fireworks are the most popular program highlight.
The accompanying program for 2026 will be published in due course by the Gartenstadt district association and Lukom. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
