International street food festival with live music and family program at Luisenplatz
Luisenplatz in Potsdam is more than just a traffic hub—it's the gateway to the baroque city center, the urban entrance to Brandenburger Straße, and one of the city's main meeting points. Located directly in front of the Brandenburg Gate, it serves as the natural starting point for any city stroll. In October, this square transforms for three days into an international gourmet market: the Food Festival Potsdam.
The organizer is Hauptstadt Kultur, an agency that organizes various street food events in Berlin and Brandenburg. At Luisenplatz, around two dozen food trucks and stalls present their specialties: burgers, pulled pork, BBQ from the smoker, street food from Vietnam and Thailand, tacos and empanadas from Latin America, falafel and mezze from the Mediterranean, vegan and vegetarian options, plus crêpes, churros, chocolate specialties, and pasta stands. The offerings change every year—making the festival a must-attend culinary event in Potsdam's autumn.
The gourmet market is accompanied by DJs and live music, creating atmosphere in the evenings. For families, there's a carousel and smaller attractions to ensure children have fun too. Hot drinks—mulled wine, tea, hot apple punch—are perfect for the often cool October weather. Admission is free; payment is only for items purchased at the stalls.
October is an excellent time for a visit to Potsdam: the high season tourist crowds have thinned, the trees in Sanssouci Park are changing color, and the city takes on a quieter, almost intimate mood. Visitors to the Food Festival can combine their experience with a stroll through the baroque city center, the Dutch Quarter, or Sanssouci Park.
Opening hours: Friday 2 PM–10 PM, Saturday 12 PM–10 PM, Sunday 12 PM–8 PM. Free admission. Several dozen food trucks and stalls, plus live music, DJ sets, and a family program.
