Traditional Jahrmarkt in Flonheim with rides, wine, music, and lively festivities over four days
Flonheim was first documented in 765, making it one of the oldest places in Rheinhessen. Over the centuries, the village developed into an important market town for the surrounding region. The centuries-old market tradition lives on today in the Flonheimer Jahrmarkt, which has evolved from historical trade fairs into a classic Volksfest.
In 2026, the Jahrmarkt will span four days. It opens on Friday, July 3rd, in the evening with the traditional barrel tapping ceremony and an opening concert. Saturday, July 4th, is the liveliest day with a major concert on the main stage. Sunday, July 5th, begins with a morning pint ('Frühschoppen') and is dedicated to families: amusement rides will be offered at family prices, and children's programs are part of the schedule. Monday, July 6th, concludes the Jahrmarkt in a relaxed atmosphere.
Wine stands from Flonheim vintners line the festival grounds. Riesling, Silvaner, Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, Rosé, and increasingly sparkling wine creations are served. Unlike pure wine festivals, the Jahrmarkt also features classic beer stands offering Palatinate and other regional beers. Food is provided by clubs and stallholders: bratwurst, Saumagen, Spundekäs, Handkäs, potato pancakes, crêpes, and all sorts of sweets.
The large festival grounds accommodate a wide range of amusement rides: Ferris wheel, dodgems, chain carousel, roller coaster, strongman game ('Hau-den-Lukas'), shooting galleries, and numerous children's rides. The mix of family attractions and adrenaline-pumping rides makes the Flonheimer Jahrmarkt a true festival for all generations.
Flonheim is located between Alzey and Bingen, in the southern Wonnegau region, and is the main town of the eponymous administrative district. With its approximately 2,500 inhabitants and historic town center around the rectory and the old church, the village provides an attractive backdrop for the annual festival. Those with more time can explore the Rheinhessen vineyards or visit the nearby Trullo landscape – small stone houses in the vineyards that are landmarks of the region.
