Tradition at Reihersee

The flea market at Reihersee is a fixture in the Lüneburg flea market scene. Unlike the markets in the town centre, it takes place in a scenic setting by the Reihersee lake in Brietlingen — a village southwest of Lüneburg in the municipality of Scharnebeck. The rural location, combined with ample space for vendors and buyers, makes it a popular weekend excursion destination. Many visitors combine their visit to the flea market with a walk by the lake and a stop at a café or snack bar.

Goods on Offer

The range of goods is typical of established flea markets with a long tradition: vintage fashion from several decades, antiques from porcelain to furniture, records from the 1960s to the 1990s, books and typewriters, old tools, jewelry, watches, glassware, children's toys, household items, and entire house clearances. Some vendors are professional dealers, others are private sellers clearing out their attics.

Vintage Cars on the Last Weekend of May

A special feature is the last May edition, which regularly attracts vintage car enthusiasts. Classics on four wheels from several decades — Beetles, old Mercedes models, Borgward, Trabants, Citroën DS, and many more — are displayed and traded. This transforms the flea market into a mixed market of bric-a-brac and vintage cars for a day, attracting additional visitors.

Brietlingen and the Municipality of Scharnebeck

Brietlingen is located in the municipality of Scharnebeck, between Lüneburg and the Elbe river. The Reihersee lake on the outskirts of the village is a popular local recreation area — for walks as well as for regular flea markets and smaller events. Brietlingen also hosts another well-known summer event: the Schützenfest (shooting festival) of the local shooting club founded in 1963.
