About Fördewoche

Since the early 20th century, the Flensburger Fördewoche has been one of the most important sailing regattas on the Baltic Sea. Around 180 yachts and over 1,000 sailors compete in several classes — from the traditional Lyö Rund to the German Open of the J/24 class. Spectators can follow the spectacle from the waterfront promenade, passenger ships, or accompanying boats.

Over 100 Years of Sailing Tradition

The Flensburger Fördewoche is an institution in the North German sailing scene. The 116th edition will be held in 2026. The organizer is the Flensburger Segel-Club (FSC), one of the oldest and most renowned sailing clubs in Germany. The Fördewoche is a regular fixture in the calendars of North German offshore sailors.

180 Yachts, Over 1,000 Sailors

Approximately 180 yachts and over 1,000 sailors come to the Flensburg Fjord every year to participate in several races. The regattas include both traditional routes and modern class rankings:

  • Lyö Rund — the classic distance race around the Danish island of Lyø
  • Blaues Band / Blau-Gelbes Band — traditional trophy races
  • Family & Friends Cup — format for crews with mixed experience
  • Bronia Pokal — for 5.5-metre yachts
  • German Open X-79 and German Open J/24 — international class championships

The Fjord as a Stage

The Flensburger Förde is one of the most beautiful sailing areas in Northern Germany: twice 35 kilometers of water, framed by Danish and German coasts, with reliable west winds and a mix of open water and wind-protected bays. You can experience the regatta up close from a water taxi or accompanying boat; good viewing points are also available from Flensburg's waterfront promenade.

More Than Just Competition — A Sailing Festival Week

While the races are taking place on the fjord, Flensburg Harbour and the sailing clubs on land transform into a festival mile: in the evenings, there are crew gatherings, live music, get-togethers, and shared dinners in the club rooms. Visitors can therefore experience not only top-class sailing sport but also a traditional maritime summer festival.

Fördewoche — edition 2026

The 116th Flensburger Fördewoche will take place from September 5th to 13th, 2026, on the Flensburg Fjord. 180 yachts, over 1,000 sailors in the Lyö Rund, Blaues Band, Family & Friends Cup, Bronia Pokal, and the German Open X-79 and J/24 classes.

Dates and Classes 2026

The 2026 edition runs for nine days between early and mid-September. The races are spread across the entire fjord area — from the inner fjord off Flensburg to Sønderborg on the Danish side.

Status of Preparations

The dates have been officially set (as of May 2026). Registration lists and class invitations are available from the Flensburger Segel-Club.
