Originating in France in 1982 and now celebrated in over 120 countries, this music festival makes music in all its forms freely accessible: amateur and professional musicians perform free of charge on streets and squares, from pop, rock, and indie to jazz, funk, and world music. In Bamberg, the festival has been organized for years by Bamberger Festivals e.V. together with the Interessengemeinschaft Sandstraße (Sandstraße Interest Group) – as a non-commercial music festival without any obligation to consume, and true to the motto 'as little technology as necessary'.
