Summer wine festival in Niederkirchen near Deidesheim with music, conviviality and Palatinate lifestyle on the village square and in the wineries
Niederkirchen near Deidesheim is often perceived in the shadow of its more famous neighbors Deidesheim, Forst, and Wachenheim — unjustly so. The Palatinate wine village boasts significant vineyards, including the Falkenberg, which produces mineral-rich Rieslings of high quality. Several established wineries shape the character of the place — and at the Fest um den Wein, they present their wines in their natural environment.
The festival spans five days over the last weekend of June. It opens on Friday, with full festival operations on the village square and in the open courtyards over the weekend. Sunday features a 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint), and Monday and Tuesday offer a relaxed conclusion. The Niederkirchen vintners serve Rieslings from the Falkenberg, Weissburgunder, rosé wines, and sparkling wine.
The festival concept combines the central village square — with club stands, the stage, and general food offerings — with the open courtyards of the wineries, which serve wine in their own inner courtyards and often offer smaller special programs. This combination offers visitors a choice: a shared festival experience on the village square or a quieter wine tasting in a courtyard.
The Fest um den Wein does not have grand tourist ambitions. It is primarily a festival for the people of Niederkirchen and their guests — and that is precisely its charm. Those who want to experience authentic Palatinate wine culture without getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of the larger Mittelhaardt festivals will find the ideal date here.
The 2026 edition continues the proven format: five days of festivities with the village square and the open courtyards of the wineries as venues. The Niederkirchen vintners will be serving wines from the Falkenberg vineyard and surrounding areas.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure will follow the established cornerstones of previous years.
