AWARD-WINNING Wine Festival Rheinhessen – Federweißer, Rheinhessen Tapas, and Concerts in the Courtyards of Gau-Algesheim Old Town
The Festival of Young Wine in Gau-Algesheim is the autumnal highlight in the wine town's event calendar. The organizer is the Weinkonvent Gau-Algesheim e.V., an association founded in 1988 by thirteen family wineries from the town, who jointly market their wines and support events like this festival with great voluntary commitment.
The festival carries the quality seal AUSGEZEICHNET Weinfest Rheinhessen, an award from Rheinhessenwein e.V., which is only given to wine festivals that meet particularly high quality standards in wines, atmosphere, and service. In Gau-Algesheim, this is evident in several key aspects: a clearly structured concept, high-quality wines, carefully curated culinary offerings, and a dense cultural supporting program.
Eight family wineries from the Weinkonvent present more than forty wines. The focus is on Federweißer – the freshly fermenting must, which is only available for a few days a year and forms the heart of the festival. In addition, there are the current vintage wines: dry Rieslings, fresh Silvaners, full-bodied Weißburgunders and Grauburgunders, Rosés, and the first red wines of the new vintage.
The wine is accompanied by Rheinhessen Tapas: small savory dishes that interpret the region's diverse culinary heritage in a modern way. Spundekäs, Handkäs with music, Riesling-Sauerbraten in mini portions, pork cheek sliders, mashed potatoes with Riesling foam, homemade sausage variations, regional cheeses, and vegan options create a varied offering.
The cultural supporting program makes the festival a very special experience. Concerts in the picturesque courtyards of the old town – with jazz, acoustic, singer-songwriter, and occasional classical music – create an intimate atmosphere that typical wine festivals often lack. Larger bands play on the market square in front of the baroque town hall in the evening. Guided hikes on the Wine and Panorama Trail above the Westerberg offer insights into the vineyards and the wine-growing history of the town on weekends.
The 2026 edition continues the proven concept as an AWARD-WINNING Wine Festival Rheinhessen: four days of wine, tapas, music, and vineyard tours in the historic old town between Schloss Ardeck, the market square, and the Graulturm.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Weinkonvent Gau-Algesheim in late summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
