Car-free Wesertal Route Bodenwerder-Rinteln on June 7, 2026, with bicycles, scooters, markets, and festivals along the route
The route along the Weser River between Bodenwerder and Rinteln is one of the most beautiful routes in Northern Germany. On Felgenfest Sunday, it will be made car-free so that cyclists, scooters, inline skaters, and pedestrians can enjoy it without car traffic.
The route leads through the entire Wesertal valley, past historic villages, forests, the Weser landscape, and cultural highlights like Hameln. The route is varied and suitable for all age groups.
The closure is in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. During this time, the route is dedicated exclusively to non-motorized mobility. A hotline for citizens will provide information about the closure and alternative routes from June 5th to 7th, 2026.
Farmers' markets, medieval markets, and village festivals will take place along the route. Concerts will entertain those taking a break. Refreshment stations will offer water, drinks, and snacks. This accompanying program makes the road closure a festive day in the truest sense of the word.
A special feature is a temporary bridge across the Weser River, provided by the Bundeswehr. This allows for an additional crossing of the Weser, expanding the festival's logistics.
The festival is jointly organized by the district of Hameln-Pyrmont and the Climate Protection Agency. The message: car-free mobility is possible, attractive, and enjoyable. Thus, the festival is also a political statement in favor of sustainable mobility.
The Felgenfest is one of Lower Saxony's largest car-free cycling festivals and a model for similar initiatives.
The complete 2026 program and the exact route will be published by the district of Hameln-Pyrmont on hameln-pyrmont.de.
