Jimi Hendrix Revival Festival on the Baltic Sea island — Free admission
From September 4th to 6th, 1970, the 'Love & Peace Festival' took place on Fehmarn — Germany's answer to Woodstock. The headliner was Jimi Hendrix, who played there on September 6th, 1970. It was his last performance ever: twelve days later, the guitar hero died in London. The festival itself went down in history due to storms, riots, and financial losses — but its myth survived.
Since the early 2000s, Fehmarn Open Air has been held annually in early September on the meadows of Strukkamp — as a Jimi Hendrix Revival Festival, preserving the legacy of Love & Peace. Classic rock, Hendrix tribute acts, bands from the North German scene, live music under the open sky with a view of the Baltic Sea.
A special feature: admission is free. The festival is financed by the sale of food and drinks on-site, supplemented by sponsors and the nearby Strukkamphuk campsite. From an insider event with a few hundred guests, it has grown over the years into an event with over 25,000 visitors per year — this mark was first exceeded at the 2005 Summer Festival.
Many festival visitors arrive the evening before: The soundcheck on September 4th, starting at 6 PM, has long been part of the festival experience — it's as much a tradition as the festival itself.
Fehmarn is the third-largest German island, belonging to the Ostholstein district, and is connected to the mainland via the Fehmarnsund Bridge. Strukkamp is located in the south of the island, right on the water. The festival benefits from the special atmosphere: sandy beach, wide meadows, Baltic Sea wind, seagulls — literally an open-air experience.
Fehmarn Open Air 2026 runs on Saturday, September 5, 2026, with the traditional soundcheck on the eve.
The festival upholds the Jimi Hendrix Revival concept: classic rock numbers from the years of the first festivals, Hendrix tribute acts, plus bands from the North German scene. The atmosphere is relaxed, familial, and intergenerational — the mix of old rockers, families, and the new generation defines the festival.
Band announcements for 2026 are still pending as of this announcement — this is traditionally the case for Fehmarn Open Air, as organizers only announce the final band list shortly before the date. As soon as the acts are confirmed, they will be communicated on fehmarn-party.de and via the Fehmarn Festival Group.
On Friday, September 4, 2026, the traditional soundcheck starts at 6:00 PM — many festival guests arrive the evening before and use the time for a pre-festival atmosphere at the Strukkamphuk campsite.
