Three Days of Fairy Tale World in Melle
Fabelhaftes Melle is a city festival that has been dedicated to the extraordinary for over two decades. Instead of classic summer and autumn festivals, the format focuses on fairy tales, fables, and city history — and on the play of light, magic, and storytelling. From November 6th to 8th, 2026, the Melle city center will transform into an experience world that works across generations.
Medieval Market
A dedicated medieval market is an integral part: craftsmen in historical costumes, jugglers, musicians, and medieval food transport visitors to another time. Blacksmiths work at open fires, bow makers demonstrate their craft, turners transform wood into bowls and toys.
Lantern Parade
The highlight of the festival is the lantern parade through the illuminated city center. Families, schools, and clubs march through the streets with homemade or purchased lanterns, accompanied by music groups and fairy tale characters. The evening atmosphere — lights, music, cool November air — is the emotional center of the festival.
Magically Illuminated City Center
The entire city center will be festively illuminated over three days. String lights in the trees, illuminated facades, fairy tale figures in the squares, and light installations transform Melle into a walk-in storybook world.
Stage Program
- Storytellers in small squares
- Live music with a connection to folk, medieval, and fairy tales
- Theater and puppet shows for families
- Readings from classic and new fairy tales
Awards and Tradition
Since its first edition in 2003, Fabelhaftes Melle has received several awards and is considered an exemplary city festival with cultural aspirations. It attracts an audience far beyond the Osnabrück region and is regularly featured in regional media coverage.
