24th EWE Nordseelauf – Norderney Island Stage with start at 12:30 PM
The EWE Nordseelauf is one of Germany's most original running formats. In seven stages, the competition takes participants across a week from the westernmost East Frisian island of Borkum to the easternmost – Wangerooge (or vice versa, depending on the edition). Each island has its own stage with a different course profile between beach, dunes, promenades, and island town.
The Norderney stage of the 24th edition in 2026 takes place on Sunday, June 21. The start is at 12:30 PM, and the course is a classic 10 kilometers long, leading through typical Norderney scenery – promenade, dune paths, and island roads. Those who complete the entire stage week will cover over 70 kilometers in total.
This year's motto “Don't stop – run against violence” gives the race an additional message. The run positions itself against gender-based and domestic violence, calling on runners to show visible solidarity. Fundraising and awareness campaigns accompany the stages.
Anyone completing the full Nordseelauf experiences a week of sports and island tourism. Accommodation on changing islands, ferry crossings, catering, and route planning are elaborately organized. Individual stage starts are also possible for day participants – the Norderney stage is thus a single running event for island guests or day visitors.
The Nordseelauf is one of Germany's oldest and most established island running formats. With the 24th edition in 2026, the organizing team sends a clear message against domestic and gender-based violence – a socio-political accent that adds a meaningful dimension to the format.
The course and competition categories for 2026 will be published by the organizer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
