Singer-songwriter, indie-folk, and quiet concerts on the Rhine
The organizers of the Even Flow Festival confidently articulate their stance: a counter-design to "higher, bigger, faster." Instead of mass amplification with a headliner mentality, the festival focuses on conscious silence, intimate stages, and a lineup ranging from established indie-folk greats to delicate newcomers. Two days, three stages, around 26 bands – and each performance has its own space.
The Tanzbrunnen is located in the Rheinpark, directly on the right bank of the Rhine with a view of the Cologne skyline, including the Cathedral and the Hohenzollern Bridge. Built in the 1950s, the open-air area with its characteristic dance floor and covered theater stage is one of the most beautiful festival backdrops in Western Germany. At the Even Flow Festival, the acts are spread across two open-air stages (Mainstage and Silent Stage) and one indoor stage.
A special feature of the festival is the Silent Stage: concerts are transmitted via wireless headphones provided by the festival to the visitors. This creates concert formats where the audience stands directly in front of the artist without the volume disturbing the surrounding area. A perfect format for singer-songwriter performances – the voice in your ear, the Rhine in view.
The festival occupies its own niche in the German festival landscape: between established international headliners (Beirut, Kevin Morby, Aldous Harding) and promising newcomers. The mix allows for encounters that don't happen elsewhere: a US folk star on the main stage, a German indie artist simultaneously on the Silent Stage. Those who have no specific plan can simply let themselves drift for two days.
Unlike many large festivals, Even Flow positions itself as a family-friendly event with special family tickets (2 adults + 2 children), accessible paths, and quieter areas. Children between 2 and 15 pay a reduced price; younger children get in free. Camping is not possible – the festival is urban and a day event.
For those already in Cologne, the weekend around the festival can be filled: the CologneTriangle and the Cologne Cathedral are directly accessible, the Rheinpark offers a beautiful walk from the festival to the LANXESS arena district, and in Deutz, there are small cafés and restaurants right on the Rhine.
The 2026 edition continues the festival concept of 2 open-air stages plus an indoor stage. Beirut will play the Saturday closing, Curtis Harding opens or closes Sunday. The Silent Stage concerts via headphones will return.
