Traditional harvest festival of the Schützenverein Brockel with delegations from friendly clubs and a long history since 1924
The Schützenverein Brockel e.V. was founded in 1887 and will look back on almost 140 years of club history in 2026. The club has been organizing the Erntefest in Brockel since 1924, making it one of the most traditional harvest festivals in the region. For over 100 years, generations of Brockel residents have supported the festival and kept the customs alive.
The Schützenholz Brockel – a wooded area with a shooting range, shooting facilities, and a festival tent – has been the club's home for decades. Its location in the tranquil forest landscape lends the festival a special atmosphere, clearly distinguishing it from village or city festival grounds.
A special tradition of the Brockel Erntefest is the participation of delegations from friendly shooting clubs from Wensebrock, Westervesede, and Wohlsdorf, who travel to the festival. They bring their royal courts, march in the festival parade, and participate in the dance evening and morning pint (Frühschoppen). These club relationships have grown over generations and are an expression of the rural shooting culture in the Samtgemeinde Bothel.
The Brockel Erntefest has both a harvest thanksgiving (Erntedank) and a shooting festival (Schützenfest) character. A harvest crown, woven from the fruits of the current year's harvest, is carried through the village in a procession. A harvest festival church service gives thanks for the harvest. Afterwards, shooting festival elements such as the king's shooting, dance evening, and the crowning of the new monarchs take center stage.
The festival parade, featuring marksmen, the band, royal courts, harvest wagons, and friendly clubs, winds its way through Brockel. The large festival tent in the Schützenholz hosts the morning pint (Frühschoppen), king's dinner, dance evening, and crowning ceremony. Families, club members, and guests from the Samtgemeinde Bothel gather on the festival grounds.
The Erntefest typically spans an entire festival weekend. Tradition, harvest thanksgiving, and shooting festival blend together.
The delegations from Wensebrock, Westervesede, and Wohlsdorf are a special component and an expression of the established shooting culture in the Samtgemeinde Bothel.
