Kleines Meer as a Sailing Area

The Kleines Meer (also called Hieve) is a freshwater lake on the outskirts of Emden, which is one of the most important sailing areas in East Frisia. Several sailing clubs – including the Emden Sailing Club (ESV) and the Emden Water Sports Club (WVE) – use the water body for training, club life, and regattas. The city championships are held on this water and bring together the active sailing scene of the region.

SUP Regatta and Bullkampfest

The ESV's SUP regatta, a Stand-Up Paddling event that is increasingly popular, kicks off the summer weekend. The Bullkampfest runs parallel to the competition – a traditional club festival with a gastronomic program, live music, and a cozy get-together. This combination of sporting competition and club festival makes the weekend a sociable highlight.

Senior Regatta and Further City Championships

On the same weekend, the Senior Regatta of the Emden Water Sports Club (WVE) also takes place. Throughout the season, further city championships follow: The OK Dinghy City Championship on August 15th and 16th, 2026, the Laser/Finn City Championship on September 5th and 6th, 2026, and the Aalregatta of the WSU on October 17th, 2026, on the Uphuser Meer.

Format and Atmosphere

The competitions are held according to the current rules of the respective boat classes. Spectators can follow the events from the shore. The Bullkampfest also offers non-sailors the opportunity to get to know the club culture. Free admission for spectators; active participation in the competitions requires club membership or official registration.
