Traditional fair with over 100 years of history in the Bockbierstadt Einbeck
The Einbeck Spring Market has been an integral part of the event calendar in Southern Lower Saxony for over a century. What began as a small market has developed into a four-day folk festival that is equally popular with locals and tourists due to its family-friendly character and its unique backdrop of medieval half-timbered houses.
The town of Einbeck, world-famous as the birthplace of Bockbier, opens its city center to showmen, market traders, and restaurateurs from all over Germany in March. The market square and adjacent streets are transformed into a colorful festival mile with rides, carousels, candy stalls, and snack stands.
The offerings range from classic children's carousels, a Ferris wheel, and bumper cars to modern rides that also satisfy adrenaline fans. Many attractions are specially designed for the younger guests, allowing families to spend a relaxing day at the market. Gourmet stands offer candied almonds, crêpes, bratwurst, potato pancakes, and of course, fresh Einbeck beer.
A special highlight is the traditional Sunday with open shops, when the stores in Einbeck's city center open their doors. Visitors can combine a market visit with a stroll through the historic old town with its over 400 half-timbered houses. The unique atmosphere makes the Spring Market an experience that goes far beyond an ordinary fair.
With the Spring Market, Einbeck traditionally opens the festival season, which continues throughout the year with the Kulturkrafttage, the Bierstadtlauf, the StadtpARTie, the Oldtimertage, and finally the large Eulenfest. The Spring Market thus marks the start of an eventful festival year in the Lower Saxony half-timbered town.
The 2026 edition of the Einbeck Spring Market will take place from Friday, March 20, to Monday, March 23, in the historic city center. The market square and adjacent streets will be transformed into a colorful festival mile with classic rides, modern attractions, and a wide variety of culinary offerings.
A highlight is the Sunday with open shops, which combines the market visit with a shopping experience in Einbeck's city center. The stores open their doors and invite you to stroll among half-timbered houses and festival stalls.
