Street Food on the Rhine Embankment
When May arrives in Düsseldorf, it brings back the city's outdoor life — and with it, the largest gastronomy festival on the Rhine embankment: EAT — eat around the world (in its 2026 edition also announced as "Taste of Düsseldorf 2026"). For three days, the Rhine promenade between Rheinwerft, Fischmarkt, and Tonhallenufer will transform into an international street food mile.
May 1st-3rd, 2026 — The Long Weekend
The 2026 edition runs from Friday, May 1st (Labour Day, public holiday) to Sunday, May 3rd, 2026. Opening on Friday from 12:00 PM. The festival is anchored in the official event document of District Representation 1 and is considered one of the city's highlight dates of early summer.
Culinary Delights from Around the World
The concept is in the name: eat around the world. Food trucks and stalls from dozens of culinary traditions gather on the Rhine embankment:
- Asia — Sushi, Ramen, Bao, Thai Curry, Vietnamese Street Food, India
- Mediterranean — Paella, Pasta, Pizza, Greek and Lebanese specialties
- Latin America — Tacos, Burritos, Empanadas, Arepas, Ceviche
- Africa — Ethiopian stews, Moroccan tagines, West African specialties
- Germany and Rhineland — Sauerbraten, Bratwurst, Potato Pancakes with Apple Sauce, Düsseldorf Mustard
- Vegetarian and Vegan strongly represented — Bowls, Wraps, Vegan Burgers
- Sweets — Crêpes, Churros, Ice Cream, Smoothies, Bubble Tea
The Rhine Embankment as a Stage
The choice of location — Rheinwerft, Fischmarkt, Tonhallenufer — is brilliant: the Rhine embankment is Düsseldorf's paradise promenade area. With the view of the Rhine, the Castle Tower in the background, the Tonhalle as concert architecture, and the bridge to the Media Harbour, a festival backdrop is created that attracts tourists and locals alike. The festival fully leverages this location advantage.
Live Music and Atmosphere
In addition to the culinary focus, there's live music on one or more stages. The exact stage program will be announced by the organizers and District Representation 1 before the event. There are also seating areas, standing tables, and activities that transform the festival into a day trip.
Düsseldorf — The City on the Rhine
Düsseldorf (approx. 620,000 inhabitants) is the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia and the cultural and economic hub of the Rhineland. Known for its Japanese community (one of the largest in Europe — "Little Tokyo" around Immermannstraße), its Carnival, Königsallee as a shopping destination, and its international gastronomy scene. EAT — eat around the world is the May version of this global Düsseldorf food culture.
