Hamburg's Pop, Indie, and Spoken Word Series in the Planten un Blomen Music Pavilion
The summer program Draussen im Grünen is one of the most delightful inventions of Hamburg's concert culture: Indie, Pop, and Spoken Word under the open sky in the music pavilion of Planten un Blomen park. The historic music pavilion, an open wooden stage with a roof in the heart of the park, seats approximately 1,200 people on the lawn in front. If you're looking for a postcard-perfect Hamburg concert evening in the summer, this is the place to be.
Unlike most festivals, Draussen im Grünen spans four weeks – from the end of July to the end of August. Each concert is a standalone event, with its own headliner and ticket. This makes the program an extended summer concert series rather than a compact festival.
The 2026 program brings together Hamburg favorites and national acts (selection, as of Spring 2026):
A special feature of Draussen im Grünen is its openness to formats beyond concerts: live podcast recordings, readings, and spoken word evenings complement the music programming. This gives the series its intellectual breadth – if you're looking for a quiet evening in the park with an audio-play feel, you'll find it here.
Between the ticketed evenings, there are "UMSONST & DRAUSSEN IM GRÜNEN" (UuDiG) – free concerts at the same music pavilion. This keeps the park an open space, ensuring concert enjoyment isn't dependent on your wallet.
The 2026 summer edition spans almost a month, with concert dates from July 30 to August 28. Each evening is a separate booking; between the ticketed concerts, free Umsonst & Draussen im Grünen events take place.
The 2026 line-up features a curated mix of singer-songwriters, indie bands, brass-pop, and spoken-word acts. Tickets are available through the festival website and Reservix, with each evening bookable individually.
Full program and tickets at draussenimgruenen.de. Free UuDiG concerts between ticketed dates.
Subway U1 Stephansplatz or S-Bahn S11/S21/S31 Dammtor, each a three to five-minute walk to the music pavilion. The park is large – follow the signs.
Via Reservix. Concerts can be booked individually; no continuous package ticket available.
The program usually takes place – the music pavilion has a roof, and attendees should bring rain protection. In case of extreme weather, program changes will be announced on the festival website.
