Bodden, Kite, and Festival Atmosphere
Dranske is located on the Wittower Bodden, at the northwestern tip of Rügen, in the Vorpommern-Rügen district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). With about 1,000 inhabitants, Dranske is a small Baltic Sea resort with a supra-regional reputation as a hotspot for kite and windsurfers — the shallow, protected Bodden waters and the reliable west winds make the region a primary destination for watersports enthusiasts in Northern Germany.
The Rügen Piraten Program
The organizer is the Rügen Piraten Wassersportschule at Dranske harbor. The Boddenparty combines a classic village festival with a watersports festival: live concerts, fireworks, an illuminated boat parade in the evening, watersports demonstrations with kite and windsurfing, market stalls with regional vendors, party until the early hours, and a children's program during the day — including a children's olympiad.
Kite Testival Alongside the Party
In parallel to the Boddenparty, the Rügen Piraten and the kite brand AOUA annually host the Wittower Festival — a kite testival with equipment testing (e.g., Panta II Kite, AOUA Carbon Pro Bar, "Paz" boards) and workshops for kitesurfers. With westerly winds, the testival alternatively takes place in Wiek. The event is open to everyone and free of charge.

The 2026 edition continues the proven format of previous years: a two-day summer weekend at Dranske harbor with live concerts, fireworks, an illuminated boat parade, watersports demonstrations, market stalls, and a family program.
The parallel Wittower Festival serves as a kite testival, offering the opportunity to test equipment from various manufacturers on-site. A children's olympiad is regularly part of the Saturday afternoon program (typically starting at 2:00 PM). The exact dates for 2026 will be communicated via the municipality of Dranske (gemeinde-dranske.de) and Rügen Piraten.

Getting There
By car via the B96 and L30 to Wiek/Dranske, parking near the harbor. By train to Bergen auf Rügen, then by bus or taxi. Dranske harbor is located about 25 km north of Bergen.
Admission
Admission to the Boddenparty and the Wittower Festival is free. Food and drinks are available at the market stalls; kite testing is available on-site through Rügen Piraten and their partners.
Tip
If you want to test equipment, bring your lycra/harness or board shorts. For spectators, warm clothing and possibly a blanket are recommended — there is often a fresh breeze on the Bodden.
