The Young Berlin Documentary Film Festival
While the Berlinale stages global glamour every February, focusing primarily on feature films, Doxumentale established itself in 2024 as a specifically documentary-focused festival. Its goal: an accessible, interdisciplinary format that sees documentary film not as a niche, but as a central cultural medium – and combines it with readings, DJ sets, talks, and VR experiences.
Hub Potsdamer Platz
The festival center is the Atrium Tower and The Playce at Potsdamer Platz – precisely where the Berlinale also has its most important venues. The choice is programmatic: Doxumentale consciously builds on the symbolic location of Berlin's film scene without competing with the Berlinale. In addition, there are Berlin art-house cinemas (the specific selection will be announced annually), open-air locations, the Zeiss-Großplanetarium for 360° films, and Kater Blau for DJ sets and after-parties.
Program and Family Offer
The festival offers a well-thought-out family program: From May 29 to 31, 2026, a special track for young visitors will feature picture book readings, short films, workshops, concerts, and games centered around media production. This positions Doxumentale differently from classic film festivals: it is explicitly intended for a broad audience, not just industry insiders.
More Than Films
Unlike traditional festivals, Doxumentale is a media platform: VR experiences in the Atrium Tower, immersive audio installations, readings by renowned authors, discussions with filmmakers and journalists. The documentary perspective is understood here as a broad field – film, audio, VR, and print overlap.
