Kutter parade, rope pulling and harbour mile at the cutter harbour — July 31 to August 2, 2026
Since its inaugural event in 2022, the Dorumer Hafentage has evolved into one of the most distinctive harbour festivals on the Lower Saxony North Sea coast. The organizer is the municipality of Wurster Nordseeküste, and the venue is the Kutterhafen Dorum-Neufeld — a working shrimp fishing harbour directly on the Wadden Sea.
The 2026 event marks the 4th edition and will take place from Friday, July 31 to Sunday, August 2, 2026. Three days of festivities will spotlight harbour life, bridging tradition and festival culture.
The highlight is the Kutterkorso (Shrimp Parade): the shrimp cutters leave the harbour, adorned for the occasion, and embark on an approximately two-hour trip into the Wadden Sea. The spectacle can be watched from the quay — and with luck, from one of the participating vessels.
A unique maritime discipline: Tampentrekken, or tug-of-war over the harbour basin. Two teams compete, with the rope stretched across the basin — whoever loses falls into the water. Spectacular fun for both participants and spectators.
The Hafenmeile (Harbour Mile) features maritime stalls, arts and crafts, souvenirs, regional specialities from shrimp rolls to smoked fish, along with live music and interactive activities. The event culminates in a grand firework display over the harbour basin — its reflection on the water doubles the effect.
The municipality of Wurster Nordseeküste is home to one of Germany's most significant shrimp fishing fleets. Dorum-Neufeld, as the main cutter harbour, is the departure point for the cutters that head out into the Wadden Sea daily — a heritage that the Hafentage celebrate and showcase.
The exact 2026 programme will be published by the municipality of Wurster Nordseeküste in advance. The structure follows the proven key points from previous years:
Kutterhafen Dorum-Neufeld, 27642 Wurster Nordseeküste. Take the A 27 (exit Nordholz/Wremen) towards Dorum-Neufeld. Parking available at the harbour.
Free admission to the festival grounds. Cutter trips may be subject to a fee; individual programme items and food/drinks are chargeable.
Try the shrimp rolls directly at the cutter harbour — they don't get any fresher. When watching the Tampentrekken, be mindful of safe distance from the basin edge.
