Summer festival in the stork village on the edge of the Stapelholm marsh
Bergenhusen – located in the Schleswig-Flensburg district, in the Eider-Treene-Sorge lowland – is known as the "Stork Village": Every summer, more than 20 pairs of white storks nest on the roofs of the thatched and brick houses, one of the highest breeding densities in Central Europe. The village is an attraction for ornithologists and nature lovers – and celebrates its village festival on the primary school grounds every August.
The festival is jointly organised by the municipality of Bergenhusen and the Bergenhusen Primary School Support Association. Proceeds from food and the tombola go towards school and association work. The format is a classic village festival: all-day programme for families, stalls, music, a convivial atmosphere.
Stalls from associations, play areas for children, a stage for musical performances, and a festival meadow for communal dining are set up on the schoolyard and in the surrounding meadows. The stork village is just a few steps away – visitors can combine the day with a stork-spotting tour through the village.
Bergenhusen is located in the Stapelholm region, one of the quietest and most nature-rich areas of Schleswig-Holstein. The NABU stork station and the surrounding bird sanctuary make the place an unusual destination – the village festival is the social complement to it: lived village community in harmony with nature tourism.
The 2026 Dorffest is set for August 15, 2026, in the official event calendar of the municipality of Bergenhusen. An all-day event on the grounds of the Bergenhusen Primary School.
Classic Schleswig-Holstein village festival: stalls from local associations, food and drinks, music, games for children, communal gathering. The exact programme will be published by the primary school's support association shortly before the date on bergenhusen.de.
