Traditional wine festival at the Diez market square with regional vintners from Rhein, Mosel, and Lahn
Diez is located on the Lahn river — and thus at an interesting intersection: To the north, the Lahn valley borders the Mittelrhein wine-growing region, to the west lies the Mosel, and to the south the Nahe. In addition, there are a few small vineyards along the Lahn itself. This geographical location makes Diez a natural meeting point for vintners from four neighboring wine-growing regions — and this is exactly the concept that the Diezer Weinwelt plays on.
The wine festival transforms the Marktplatz Diez below the striking Grafenschloss into an open-air wine meeting point. Several vintners from the aforementioned growing regions set up their stalls, serving Riesling, Spätburgunder, Weißburgunder, Rosé, and Sekt (sparkling wine). Sales are by the glass and by the bottle to take home. The selection offers an excellent overview of the different styles of regional wine cultures — from the mineral Mittelrhein Riesling to the classic Mosel Riesling and the full-bodied Nahe Spätburgunder.
The wine festival is accompanied by regional specialties: Flammkuchen (Alsatian flatbread), Spundekäs (a Mainz cream cheese specialty), Bratwurst (grilled sausage), Spießbraten (roast pork on a spit), cheese from the Westerwald region, and vegetarian options. Local clubs and Diez gastronomy operate the stalls.
Live music on a small stage provides subdued accompaniment — usually acoustic duos, singer-songwriters, or small bands that do not overpower the picnic atmosphere. The mood is deliberately relaxed: a classic summer wine festival that has the character of a convivial wine tasting under the open sky.
The 2026 festival continues the proven concept: regional diversity of vintners, relaxed wine festival atmosphere, market square backdrop under the Grafenschloss.
The exact program for 2026 (participating vintners, music, food menu) will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: opening in the late afternoon, full operation in the evening, winding down at night.
