Demonstration, rally, and family festival for Labour Day – Motto 2026: 'Our Jobs First, Then Your Profits'
May 1st as 'Labour Day' has been celebrated in Germany by the labour movement since 1890 as a common day of action and celebration. The DGB, as the umbrella organisation of German trade unions, organises rallies, demonstrations, and family festivals in numerous cities. In Delmenhorst, the event has a long tradition and is an important local date in political culture.
Already on the evening of April 30th, the DGB invites you to the Markthalle Delmenhorst from 6 PM. With speeches, live music, and snacks, the May Day holiday will be welcomed together. The event serves as a social prelude to the demonstration the following morning.
The demonstration starts on May 1st, 2026, at 11 AM in Delmenhorst's market square. With banners, flags, and trade union demands, participants march through the city centre. From 12 PM, the central rally with speeches by local and regional trade union representatives will take place, followed by a family festival with music, catering, and activities for children.
This year's nationwide DGB motto focuses on the perspective of employees. Topics such as collective agreements, job security, fair pay, good work, and social cohesion shape the speeches and posters.
After the rally, the May festival continues in a relaxed atmosphere. With bratwurst, drinks, live music, and children's activities, the day becomes a convivial meeting point for families from Delmenhorst and the wider region.
Delmenhorst Market Square is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport, bicycle, or on foot. Those arriving from further afield can use Delmenhorst main station.
The 2026 DGB rally is an example of the connection between political tradition and lived urban culture. Trade unions, works councils, and civil society actors from Delmenhorst and the region come together to discuss current labour market issues and shape the traditional May festival.
With speeches, live music, catering, and a children's program, the event combines political messages with social interaction.
